Color Planning for the Crayola Jacket – A Note from the Studio
One of the most joyful parts of knitting a colorful statement piece like the Crayola Jacket by Maria Jesus Camus is choosing your palette!
Recently, we received a lovely message from Francine, who was inspired by our YouTube videos and wanted help planning her own color combination. Aimée kindly forwarded her message to me, and I was more than happy to dive in and share some ideas.
First of all – thank you, Francine, for your incredibly kind note! It means the world to us to know that these videos bring you inspiration and encouragement. It truly keeps us going.
My Suggested Yarn Palette
If I were knitting the Crayola Jacket from scratch (rather than from stash), here’s the yarn I would choose:
Main Color (MC):
Contrast Color 1 (CC1):
Contrast Color 2 (CC2):
Contrast Color 3 (CC3):
Contrast Color 4 (CC4):

Yardage for Size 4
For reference, I’m knitting a Size 4, and here’s what I calculated I would need:
- 3 skeins Merino Sport in Sansa
- 2 skeins Mohair Silk in Sansa
- 2 skeins Merino Super Sock in Heliodore
- 2 skeins Soyeux in Pretty in Pink
- 1 skein Kumo in Pretty in Pink
- 1 skein Felix in Fluoro Morganite
- 1 skein Felix in Sansa
- 1 skein Kumo in Fluoro Morganite
- 1 mini skein Alix in Buzz
- 1 skein Mohair Silk in Peach Sweater
Where to find the pattern?
The pattern for the Crayola Jacket by Maria Jesus Camus was published in Assemblage volume 1, recently published by Amirisu, and available on our website.
A Note on Substitutions
I did end up substituting a few skeins from my personal stash, including a colorway from The Wandering Flock that was exclusive to our pop-up last year. For accessibility, I’ve listed Heliodore as an alternative here.
I hope this color roadmap inspires others who are dreaming up their own Crayola Jacket! Thank you again, Francine, for your enthusiasm and kind words!
