Caring For La Bien Aimée Yarn
Your hand knits are precious, and deserve the best care possible, so be sure to follow these instructions for the best results:
Wet blocking your swatch
Please know that we use dyeing techniques that fix the dye onto the yarn, however for our darker and more saturated colors there may be minimal bleeding, so it's really important to test wash your swatch first, especially if you plan to use it in combination with a much lighter yarn.
Washing your finished hand knit
We strongly recommend that you wash your finished project by hand in a large quantity of cool water with a very small amount of gentle wool wash. It's best not to leave it in the bath for too long, and there's no need to keep washing repeatedly until the water runs clear. Certain colors (the dark tonals and strong pinks) will always color the water. This is normal. Repeated rinsing will make the dye molecules start to break and want to transfer to lighter colors. For high contrast color combinations, you might want to add a color catcher sheet to the bath too.
Dye transfer onto fingers
Some dark colors may transfer onto your hands as you knit, which is known as crocking, and not necessarily cause for alarm. Crocking is frequently caused by the pH of your hands drawing off the dye molecules as you drag the fiber over your skin. This does not necessarily mean that the colors will bleed when blocked or crock when worn.
