Helix

I’m so excited to finally take the time to introduce our new base, Helix. A non-superwash mix of Falkland Merino and Gotland sheep, this naturally grey base makes every colorway look heathered and interesting. We developed it as a lace weight (650m / 710 yards for 100g) in order to mix it with other bases, such as mohair or Kumo. It also works as a Sport weight when held double with itself. Helix is so versatile, rustic and sheepy as any non-superwash yarn should be, but still incredibly soft and drapey. It is absolutely wearable next to skin, as a sweater, but also a shawl or a cowl. 

FR: Je suis très heureuse de vous présenter notre nouvelle base, Helix. Une laine non-superwash mêlant Falkland Merino et Gotland, cette base naturellement grise donne une teinte chinée à toutes nos couleurs. Nous avons choisi de vous la proposer en épaisseur Lace (650m pour 100g) afin de la doubler avec d'autres bases, comme Mohair ou Kumo. En double, elle a l'équivalent d'une épaisseur Sport. Conservant le côté rustique de toute laine non-superwash, Helix reste néanmoins extrêmement douce et souple. Parfaite pour être portée à même la peau, pour un pull, mais aussi pour un châle ou un col.

For my version of Bright Feather by Jenn Steingass, I used La Bien Aimée Helix held double for the body and I held La Bien Aimée Mohair Silk held double for the colorwork. 

Pour ma version du Brightfeather de Jenn Steingass, j'ai utilisé Helix en double pour le corps, et notre mohair en double pour le jacquard.

 

Veera’s new design, Old School, has been in heavy rotation in my wardrobe ever since she sent me her sample. A fun twist on the traditional yoke sweater, it features a pretty leafy lace pattern on the body. Veera used Helix in the Cassiopeia colorway, and Mohair in Parchment. 

Le nouveau patron de Veera, Old School, est l'un des pulls que je porte le plus depuis qu'elle me l'a envoyé. Elle a réinventé le traditionnel pull en yoke en plaçant le joli motif de dentelle sur le corps. Veera a utilisé Helix dans le coloris Cassiopeia, et le mohair en Parchment.

 

Rues de Paris is Alma’s latest design. One strand of Helix and two strands of Mohair create this incredible fabric, with added squish provided by the tuck stitches technique. It is a stunning jacket with customisable length and ingenious construction. Have fun mixing three different colors for this one and obtain a heathered and unique garment!

Rues de Paris est le dernier patron d'Alma. Un fil d'Helix et deux fils de mohair créent cette veste hyper moelleuse réalisée à l'aide de la technique des tuck stitches. Une longueur adaptable et une construction ingénieuse en font un projet hyper amusant. Mélangez trois couleurs différentes pour un rendu absolument unique!

Marianne Munier is a French designer I’ve known for a while. I was very excited to collaborate with her and she did not disappoint! Not only did she design a beautiful colorwork cowl using a single strand of Helix but she is also designed a small collection of cardigans. Her pattern has many options for necklines and hem so that you can knit the perfect sweater for you. I chose a fun v-neck cropped version which uses Helix and Kumo. The mix of these yarns creates such a lightweight and warm fabric. Helix sweater and cowl are now available on Raverly.

Je connais Marianne Munier depuis un bon moment, j'étais donc très contente de collaborer avec elle et je n'ai pas été déçue! Elle a non seulement imaginé un superbe col en jacquard avec un seul fil de Helix, mais elle a également créé une petite collection de gilets. Son patron propose plusieurs options pour le col et la longueur, et vous permettra de tricoter le gilet parfait pour vous. J'ai choisi un col en V et une longueur cropped, en mêlant Helix et Kumo pour obtenir un vêtement léger et chaud. Ces deux patrons sont disponibles sur Ravelry.

 

Andrea Mowry also chose Helix and Kumo for her Satellite shawl in her signature asymmetrical triangle shape. French grey is held double throughout the whole shawl and is striped with Kumo, the result is a light, warm and oh so soft shawl. Kits are available online and I will be creating bespoke kits using some of our unique Happy Accidents. 

Andrea Mowry a également choisi de mêler Helix et Kumo pour son châle Satellite dans sa forme fétiche du triangle asymétrique. Le coloris French Grey est doublé tout au long du châle, entrecoupé de rayures dans notre base Kumo. Ce châle est à la fois chaud et hyper doux. Nous vous proposons des kits sur notre site internet dans les couleurs choisies par Andrea, mais j'ai également créé des kits uniques avec certains de nos coloris Happy Accidents.

I love that Sylvia McFadden chose Yellow Brick Road for her Cadence shawl, a beautiful triangle shawl inspired by the ocean and the movement of the sand along the shore. Again, she held Helix double, like I did for my Brightfeather by Jennifer Steingass. It creates a sturdy yet drapey fabric which I just love. You will need two skeins of Helix to knit Cadence. 

Sylvia McFadden a choisi ma couleur préférée, Yellow Brick Road, pour Cadence, un superbe châle triangulaire inspiré par l'océan et le mouvement du sable sur la côte. Elle aussi a choisi de doubler Helix, comme je l'ai fait dans mon Bright feather de Jennifer Steingass. Le rendu est à la fois dense et souple. Il vous faudra deux écheveaux de Helix pour tricoter ce châle.
